The Flaherty Pod Porto 2025 has come to an end, a partnership between the Flaherty Seminar—which celebrated its 70th anniversary—ESAP, and BATALHA – CINEMA CENTRE, with the collaboration of CEAA and the Fábrica Film Club. Over four days, the participant community followed the New York seminar’s screening program, followed by locally moderated discussions led by Kitty Furtado, Nuno Lisboa, Ritó Natálio, and Amarante Abramovici, the Pod’s organizer.
It was a cinematic and political journey, starting with Symbiopsychotaxiplasm Take One, the seminal and revolutionary work by William Greaves, which will have its retrospective in Lisbon later this year. The program also featured the 1963 March on Washington, filmed by James Blue or Haskell Weller, the Cuban feminist movement documented by Sara Gomez, film and activism collectives such as The Sudanese Film Group and the Karrabing Film Collective, as well as contemporary creators like Cauleen Smith and The Otholith Group, among many others. Artist and filmmaker Deborah Stratman joined the Pod for the opening session and will be at Batalha – Cinema Center again this Thursday, July 3rd. We look forward to coming back next year with even more enthusiasm!
