As part of Porto Femme, the LAVORES showcase, curated by filmmaker and ESAP lecturer Amarante Abramovici and MA student Beatriz Diniz, will take place from April 22 to 25 at the Batalha Centro de Cinema, with daily screenings at 7:15 pm.

What is labour? And what is women’s labour? Lavores… all the work that does not fit into “work,” from shelling peas to sex, from childbirth to dirty laundry – the history of our domestication and our revolts.
Women’s labour exists below labour – and, to a large extent, women’s cinema is still created below cinema. It does not matter. We occupy the in-between spaces, the cracks, the borders between the genres established by the dominant order, peering into the gaps between theatre and cinema, propaganda and censorship, collective and political subject, classes and margins, the social and the personal, documentary and fiction, memory and archive, machine and hand.

The programme will include, among others, Carrot in Parts, an animated short film directed by Íris Silva.

The full programme of the showcase can be found on the festival’s pages.
