Joana Baptista Costa is a graphic designer and researcher. PhD in Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (2019) and graduated from the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha (2006). She is a researcher at the Institute for Research in Art Design and Society (I2ADS). She is interested in research and curatorship, studies in design, archive, graphic heritage and material culture, production processes and editing modes. She develops research in the domains of theory and criticism of graphic design in Portugal. His doctorate ‘Discourses of graphic design in its emergence in Portugal (1960-2000)’ proposes a historiography of graphic design based on discourses. As a designer, she encourages the intersection of processes and methodologies between design and research. She is co-founder of the Joana & Mariana Graphic Design Studio, in which she develops visual identity, editorial and exhibition design projects for various entities.
