“Ladies and gentlemen, the theatre 2nd year students are about to present a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and betrayal – all those things that are held dear to the heart. Chicago, the Broadway musical, which premiered in 1975, with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and libretto by Ebb and Bob Fosse, is set in the jazz age, and was based on a 1926 play of the same title by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, about criminals and real crimes reported. The story is a satire on corruption in criminal justice and the concept of “celebrity criminal”, where we will recreate the environment of Vaudeville, so popularized in the beginning of the 20th century, in the United States.”
