September 4, 11, 18, and 25; October 2 and 9 | 5:00 pm–8:00 pm | ESAP (room to be announced)

ESAP is offering Negative Positive — Black and White Film Development, a short practical course dedicated to black-and-white analogue photography, guiding participants from camera work through to film developing and darkroom printing processes.

Over the course of six sessions, participants will work with analogue cameras, photographic film, and darkroom techniques for developing and printing photographs, exploring light and shadow as a visual language. The course combines technical foundations, creative experimentation, and critical image analysis, providing a practical and progressive introduction to analogue photography.

Led by Rui Lourosa, the course requires no previous experience and is intended for students, emerging artists, teachers, and members of the general public with an interest in photography. By the end of the course, each participant will have produced a small portfolio of black-and-white photographic prints.

Sessions will take place at ESAP, in a room to be announced, on 4, 11, 18 and 25 September, and 2 and 9 October, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Admission requires prior registration, to be completed by email at cursos@esap.pt. Applications should include the following information: full name, date of birth, and a brief statement outlining the applicant’s reasons for wishing to attend the course.
