The Flaherty Seminar is one of the most important meetings around non-fiction cinema in the world. Every year, film lovers, filmmakers, artists, students, researchers, curators, critics and archivists come together for a week-long immersive program of film screenings and collective debates around a theme — “TO COMMUNE” is the theme of the 69th edition, curated by May Adadol Ingawanij and Julian Ross. Usually taking place in New York, the Flaherty Seminar takes place this year in Thailand – at the Thai Film Archive in Salaya, and unfolds in multiple locations around the world through its self-organized pods. One of these pods will take place in Porto, with three meetings on the 27th & 28th of June + 1st of July, always at 6pm. In the spirit of the seminar, all sessions are a surprise until the beginning of each meeting. The Porto pod is organized by ESAP teachers and students, with the support of the Arnaldo Araújo Research Center. The films are subtitled in English; Conversations take place in Portuguese and English. Entry is free, participants can bring a contribution (text, image, reflection, short film, food, drink…) to share with the community.
