Session sharing the creative process behind Red Cloud Teatro de Marionetas’ show ‘Castelo dos Fantasmas’ (Castle of Ghosts) and observing the relationship between tradition and contemporary methods.
Teatro Dom Roberto is one of the most popular and traditional forms of puppetry in Portugal. The play ‘Castelo dos Fantasmas’ embraces traditional routines known in Portugal and Europe. But it also looks at and weaves together memories, breaking some conventions around the tradition of ‘Teatro Dom Roberto’, elevated to Portuguese intangible cultural heritage in 2021.

About the company

Red Cloud Teatro de Marionetas is a Portuguese company founded in 2013. With a solid professional artistic background, it performs for children and adults and participates in national and international theatre and puppet festivals. It establishes partnerships and implements projects in conjunction with public and private institutions. It focuses its activities on the creation and circulation of shows, developing its language in a contemporary context, with a focus on the cinematic experience of theatre with puppets, moving between tradition and contemporaneity. It develops educational activities in circulation. At the local level, it aims to contribute to the cultural offering in the broad field of puppet theatre, through (in addition to its own creations and revivals of its own shows) educational services at the local and virtual level, and its own programme motus imago- puppets, forms and things in motion, with specific activities that take place in its own space or in various cultural spaces in the city of Aveiro.

Red Cloud Teatro de Marionetas is a structure funded by the Portuguese Government – Culture, Youth and Sport / Directorate-General for the Arts for the 2025/2026 biennium.
