Talk with Nuno Lucena, scenographer and researcher in the theatrical area of ​​scenic spaces. This cycle of conversations is part of the ESAP/SATH project Art Direction: Methods and Practices II.

Nuno Lucena began his artistic training at the Escola Artística Soares dos Reis, in 1987. He graduated in Scenography Design from the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo in 2001. During his training he attended Hogsckolen, in Bergen (Norway), where he worked theater aimed at children. He finished the course with distinction, having received a Merit Scholarship. Developed a study on Classical Italian Theatrical Machinery. He was Technical Coordinator of the XXII FITEI and was part of the stage machinery teams at the PONTI Festivals in 1999 and 2001. He worked as a puppeteer and puppeteer for the companies Pandora and Circolando. He has collaborated in several theater projects, such as Esbofeteatro (2001), Circolando (2003 – 2006), Panmixia (since 2008), Teatro das Beiras (2009) and Teatro Arado (since 2009) among others, as well as some renowned directors, such as André Braga, José Carretas, João Paulo Costa, Patrícia Franco, Rui Melo, among others. He has collaborated with show producers, namely Elenco Produções, for whom he designed the musicals Cinderela XXI (2010) and Ilha do Tesouro (2011). He has been a professor of scenography at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP) since 2003, and a professor of Visual Performance at the Escola Artística de Soares dos Reis since 2006. He is a guest professor of the Basic Theater course – Triennium of pilot pedagogical experience. Member of the Portuguese Scenography Association, where he presides over the General Assembly.
