ESAP Hosts the Open Course “Time, Matter and Print — Printmaking Practices”

BAN_Práticas da Gravura
30th June and 2nd July; 7th and 9th July; 14th and 16th July | 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. | ESAP (Printmaking Studio)

ESAP is offering the open course Time, Matter and Print — Printmaking Practices, led by Joana Paradinha, a theoretical and practical introduction to the processes of intaglio printmaking.

Across six sessions, participants will explore both direct and indirect engraving techniques, including drypoint, etching, aquatint and soft-ground etching, as well as the inking and printing of metal plates. The course combines technical foundations, historical context and practical experimentation, providing a progressive introduction to the expressive possibilities of printmaking.

The programme encourages reflection on the relationship between matter, gesture and time, highlighting the observation of the transformations undergone by both the matrix and the printed image. At the same time, it promotes collaborative learning, the sharing of processes and the critical analysis of the proofs produced.

The course is intended for students, emerging artists, teachers and members of the general public interested in the visual arts. No previous experience is required. By the end of the course, each participant will have developed a small portfolio consisting of state proofs and final prints produced throughout the programme.

Admission requires prior registration via cursos@esap.pt. Applications should include the following information: full name, date of birth and a brief statement outlining the reasons for wishing to attend the course.
