In her painting, Sylvia Schultes seeks to explore pictorial spatialization through the use of multiple layers of paint. Grid-like structures often meet organic shapes. Through installations, a painting practice is affirmed that moves in real space. Usually, when rolled, crumpled, or hung, long strips of painted paper develop into something resembling an object.
