From 12 December 2025 to 31 January 2026, the city of Porto hosts Border Lines – Memories and Thoughts in Motion, a research project by artist Giovanni Fava, granted by the Italian Council program (14th edition, 2025) and promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, an initiative aimed at promoting the international visibility of Italian contemporary art. Organised in collaboration with ESAP – Escola Superior Artística do Porto and its Galeria DÍNAMO, the exhibition reflects on the concept of the boundary in its multiple dimensions: geographical, cultural, psychological, and perceptual.
Crossing a boundary always implies an identity and emotional redefinition, leaving indelible traces in both personal and collective memory. Border Lines interprets this act of crossing as an experience shaped by memory, loss, and regeneration, where every gesture, mark, and trace becomes part of an inner geography in constant transformation.
The project unfolds as a physical and mental journey, in which line, earth, writing, and processes of erasure and recomposition become tools through which the artist investigates the persistent tension between permanence and dissolution, presence and absence.
