Seminar “Mind your step! On the threshold, entering the picture”

In this seminar, Peter Baalman* proposes some lines of thought about the notion of threshold, familiar to him in the approach of artwork and space. The Cambridge dictionary defines the threshold as the level or point at which you experience something. Through this notion, we will be able to explore different conditions for the body and the mind engaging in the experience of art and space, over the threshold, as a transitional and transforming movement, somehow on the edge of no return.

*Peter Baalman is a Dutch architect and visual artist. After a short university course in linguistics and an art history degree at the Sorbonne in Paris, he has turned towards architecture, working for over 25 years beside the arch. Odile Decq, who shares the adventure of radical and experimental architectural research and building realizations and its diversification towards design, interior architecture, and art. He has been teaching at the Confluence Institute for Creative Strategies in Architecture in Lyons; at the Ibn Khaldoun University in Tunis and has regularly participated as jury for the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris. Besides teaching, he is now focusing on a more specific artistic career through a Master’s degree in visual arts at the Sorbonne Paris I, collaborations with performative artists, and the project for creating an artist’s space in Porto.
