Students from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto are presenting Memento Mori, directed by Roberto Merino, at the José Guimarães Festival.
Memento Mori, a Latin expression for “Remember that you are mortal”, is a collage of texts by various authors that refer to the medieval tradition of the Dance of Death. This was an allegory, inspired by Lucian’s Dialogues of the Dead, which depicts the dance between the living and the dead, to show how life and death are indelibly linked, and which also gave rise to an unmistakable genre of medieval theater.
This show is directed by Roberto Merino, one of Porto’s most renowned directors and theater educators, author of numerous productions for Seiva Trupe, TEP, Teatro Art’Imagem, among others, and former director of the theater course at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto, and will take place as part of the José de Guimarães Festival, which pays homage to the writer, musician and director from Gaia.
